The Patriotic Millionaires are a group of millionaires with an income of $1 million and over and/or assets of $5 million and over. The overall goal of the organization is to make sure millionaires are taxed equally to everyone else, to make sure the non-millionaires are represented in government just as much as millionaires are, and to make sure everyone has a living wage. Erica Payne and Morris Pearl are two of the Patriotic Millionaires and are trying to make sure the tax code treats everyone equally.

One of the big problems, they point out in the book, is that the average person doesn’t know what the loopholes are. They also aren’t in a position to make use of them even if they do know since the government taxes millionaires and working people differently. Because of this imbalance, millionaires are getting richer as the working class is getting poorer. They would much rather be rich in a rich country than rich in a poor country. The only way they see to fix the problem, to stop the country from falling farther and farther into poverty, is to fix the tax code so that the millionaires are paying to help maintain the country just like the working class is.
